I am a Ph.D. student at Virginia Tech. My major is Macromolecular Science and Engineering. It means to study macro = large molecules.
My research focuses on specially engineered bacteria to improve cancer treatment. These bacteria can release large molecules that break down the tough materials found in breast cancer tumors. By softening the tumor, we hope to help cancer-fighting drugs spread more easily and reduce side effects for patients.
I truly love being a teacher. I have 12 semesters of teaching experience at the university level. I like teaching Chemistry and Polymer Science, but I love talking to my students about all areas of science, because everything in science is interconnected.
When I finish my Ph.D., I want to become a Teaching Professor at a university. It is my dream to talk to students about the exciting things I have found on my journey. I want my students to see science not just as a subject, but as a way of thinking that connects to everything around us. I plan to complete my degree in December 2025.
